How to create a Line and Clustered column chart in PowerBI

Introduction to Line and Clustered column chart in PowerBI

It is a Combination of Line Chart and Clustered Column Chart. Mostly it is used to visualize continuous trends and categorical comparisons within one chart.

Dataset Description

The supermarket sales dataset was used in this blog for creating line and clustered column chart in PowerBI. The dataset contains various details such as InvoiceID, branch, city, customer type, gender, product line, and many more.

Procedure to Create Line and Clustered Column Chart in PowerBI:

Step1: Open your PowerBI Desktop on your Device

Step2: Click on Get Data button in Home Ribbon and select Text/CSV.

Step3: Open Prompt box will be open to select your text or csv file.

Step4: After selection of dataset, It will pop up a window for Load OR Transform Data. Click on Load to use data on PowerBI.

Step5: In the following picture, data has been loaded successfully.

Step6: Select Line and Clustered Column Chart from Visualizations Section (Right Hand Side).

Step7: Here, we’ll put the following data (from supermarket_sales) in different fields:

After that you have to click on format your visual. Go to the General click on turn on visual border and the shadow. In the Visual border make the rounded corner of 15 px. After that Go to Visuals and turn on the data labels.

What the Chart indicating:

The line and clustered column chart in PowerBI shows how many of a product were sold and how much it was worth across all payment methods for both regular users and members. The graph shows that Cash purchases brought in the most money (112.2K), even though Cash (1896 units) and Credit card (1722 units) sold almost as many products. Ewallets made a balanced addition; members bought products a little faster than regular users, but they still made a total of 110K in sales. Credit cards were used by normal people to buy the most products (1002 units), but they also made the fewest sales overall (100.8K).

Conclusion:

With a Line and Clustered Column Chart, we can use functionality of Line Chart and Clustered Column Chart at a same time in a Chart. We can get the details of each column or line by moving the cursor over the line and column, and can show much details using tooltip field.
